All about Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is situated in Northern Thailand, 700km north of the capital city of Bangkok. Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand, 

yet only has a population of around 200,000. Compare this to Bangkok which has about 9 million and it is easy to see why even theThai people in Bangkok love to visit 
Chiang Mai for a holiday.

Chiang Mai was built in 1296 as a walled city surrounded by a moat. 

The old city was roughly 1.5km square. Whilst a good portion of the original city wall has collapsed the four corner bastions are still intact along with various other sections. 

The original moat is still in use to this day.

Chiang Mai city is basically made up now of the old city 

(within the walled area) and the new city which has grown up around it.

If you like ancient temples (Wats) and buildings, then visit Chiang Mai and the surrounding areas, they are full of them, several hundred in fact.

Welcome to Chiang Mai ''Slow life City'' Why do I use this word ? Because of Chiang Mai quite small and people still pure & kind if we compare with Bangkok.

                                                         

We use to have our own Kingdom which we call Lanna Kingdom.

Chiang Mai is the capital of Lanna Kingdom since 724 years ago.

The meaning of “Lanna’’ is 1 million of rice fields. Because most local people mainly 
do agriculture and farming.

Lanna used to be independence and separated from Siam or Thailand. In the past, we fought with Myanmar and we lost independence to Myanmar since 462 years ago.

In that time our capital was abandoned for 200 years that’s why you can find 
abandoned pagodas around old city.

Then, we collaborated with Siam or Thailand to fight with Myanmar After we have successfully freed independence from Myanmar.

Lanna kingdom was union with Thailand since 253 years ago.

From then , we began to revitalize the city again.

Almost of temples in Chiang Mai have been rebuilt in that time.

That’s why almost temples do not look old like real age.

      (Most temples in Chiang Mai are older than 500 years)
